Secondary 2021-2022

Spring Term

Purple Class

Classes across the school got the opportunity to meet with officers from Hampshire Police. They brought their police car into school and pupils were given the chance to explore the vehicle, see the lights and hear the siren. It was extremely loud. The police talked to pupils about their equipment and job role. A huge thanks to Hampshire Police for such a fantastic experience.

Blue Class

Blue class represented Hollywater School at the annual Hampshire schools table cricket competition. Throughout the day students demonstrated the skills they had remembered from previous coaching sessions and new skills they had learnt during recent coaching sessions. Blue class wowed the staff with their amazing teamwork and sportsmanship they showed to other schools competing. We all enjoyed the day and had great fun taking part.

Charcoal Class

During the Spring Term Charcoal class have been working on independent skills of buying from our in-class Café. We have been working on independence skills such as social interactions, money maths skills and preparing snack like toast, hot drinks and sandwiches.

Everyone has really enjoyed this activity and shown some great improvement with the way they interact with each other especially during an unfamiliar task.  I also think everyone has enjoyed the reward at the end of the task.

Bronze and Aqua Class

For their Duke of Edinburgh Physical Section, pupils trained for the Hollywater Triathlon.  The triathlon consists of walking/running, cycling and swimming, each element was for a 30 minute period of time and completed on the same day.  All pupils trained for 3 weeks for each different activity, some pupils learnt to ride a bike, which was extremely impressive!  On Triathlon day, the pupils were amazing, digging deep when they were tired or their muscles were aching -every pupil showed resilience,  A superb effort!

Orange Class

In the spring term we learned about ecosystems, adaptation and food chains in Science. In Discovery we learned about climates. This linked in very well as for example in one day we learned about deserts, the condition of a desert and how animals are adapted to these conditions. We also used Google Earth, maps, atlases and globes to find out where on Earth these deserts are. On other occasions we learned about the rainforest and polar regions. We created food chains for these habitats.

Red Class

The pupils enjoyed their Easter Activities- we had an Easter lunch all together in the hall. We went outside for an Easter egg hunt where we had to find laminated sections of an egg to bring back to class to exchange for chocolate eggs and treats. We then enjoyed an afternoon of Easter themed craft activities in class which parents and carers were invited to.

Autumn Term

Purple Class

In PSHE and Independence skills, Purple Class have been thinking about self-care.  We looked at ways we can keep ourselves clean, including how to brush our teeth. We each had our own toothbrush to practice the skill. We explored large sets of teeth and used mirrors to see what is in or mouths.

Orange Class

In the autumn term we learned about Military Band Music. We explored the Pipes and Drum regiments, different rhythms with drums and we used kazoos. When it was Remembrance Day we had a go at playing the last post on our kazoos.

Blue Class

Blue class had a great Autumn term transitioning into their new classes with new friends and teachers. To celebrate the end of term and Christmas blue class enjoyed taking part in the Christmas activities and enjoyed a Christmas lunch together. Blue class had a visitor in the class leading up to Christmas, it was a naughty Elf.

Red Class

Red class had Simon the cricket coach in to teach us how to play Kwik Cricket in our PE lessons.

We learnt some of the skills involved in the game : communicating with our team mates, how to send a ball, how to field and stop a ball, how to bowl and how to bat. Everyone really enjoyed the sessions and it was fantastic to see how much everyone learnt and progressed over the weeks that he was here.

Bronze and Aqua Class

Every three weeks Bronze and Aqua pupils go on an extended walk as part of their Duke of Edinburgh expedition training.  They are given a route to follow in a local woodland and win their teams work together to navigate themselves around the route.  Adults are on hand to assist if necessary.  The teams are learning to communicate effectively with other and motivate each other.
