Further Education

Our FE department offers courses for learners who have severe learning difficulties and complex needs, providing high levels of support and guidance within a caring and nurturing community.

FE has a dedicated new hub situated within the school grounds and benefits from a range of specialist facilities including Forest School and outdoor play areas, as well as access to the Sensory Room, Immersive Suite and Hydro Pool. These environments support a highly personalised and engaging curriculum.

We provide the highest quality of teaching and learning through a skilled, experienced, appropriately trained and dedicated staff team. Our post-16 programmes are designed to:

  • Equip students for adult life, promoting the greatest possible degree of independence as full and active members of their community.

  • Develop independence and self-help skills.

  • Increase students’ understanding and awareness of their community, environment and the wider world.

  • Enable students to become effective communicators, expressing preferences, communicating needs, making decisions and developing self-advocacy skills.

  • Respond to the individual needs of students, including those requiring therapeutic approaches to support wellbeing.

  • Provide meaningful, realistic and relevant opportunities for all students to learn, progress and achieve.

In FE, we follow the ASDAN award for the majority of the week. This includes community visits, developing personal and social skills, participation in whole school activities and welcoming visitors to our weekly afternoon tea. Students also take part in a weekly enterprise activity, currently involving cooking and selling bacon or sausage rolls to staff!
